Through day and night: Thomas Daniel Schlee’s organ concerto “Horai”

(4.2.2014) Thomas Daniel Schlee’s third organ concerto was commissioned by the Camerata Salzburg. The classical characterisation of the hours of the day, the “Horai”, are the inspiration for the twelve concise movements of this concerto for organ and chamber orchestra, composed with support from the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung. The premiere in Salzburg on 7 and 9 March will be conducted by Philippe Herreweghe, and the soloist is Christian Schmitt.

Charlotte Seither in Loccum and at the BBC Proms 2013

(4.6.2013) Two compositions by Charlotte Seither explore vocal sound. Charlotte Seither has composed licht und namen, scored for 12-part double choir, for the Norddeutsche Figuralchor, to be premiered at a concert marking the 850th anniversary of Kloster Loccum (Loccum Monastery) conducted by Jörg Straube on 23 June 2013. With her work Language of Leaving for large orchestra and 24 voices, Charlotte Seither is one of this year’s commissioned composers at the BBC Proms in London. The work receives its premiere on 28 August 2013 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Singers in the Royal Albert Hall, London. The conductor is Josep Pons. The composer is also featured in the Proms Plus Portrait series with her chamber music works.

Thomas Daniel Schlee’s 2nd Symphony in the Musikverein Vienna

(4.6.2013) Thomas Daniel Schlee’s Symphony No. 2 receives its premiere in the Musikverein Vienna. Commissioned to mark the 200th anniversary of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, it will be premiered by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra conducted by Manfred Honeck on 15 June 2013. The three-part work progresses “through darkness to light”: it begins with an opening movement entitled “Umbrae” and leads into brightness, via an extended middle movement into the open colourfulness and energy of the final movement.

Miroslav Srnka's "My life without me": premiere in Prague

(1.4.2013) Miroslav Srnka's My life without me is a gripping monodrama of a woman in dialogue with her world, which has turned upside down. Following the Ensemble Intercontemporain’s premiere of the “Dialogues” from My life without me in 2008 in Paris, they present the first performance of the work at the Festival Prague Spring in the composer’s native city on 19 May. The soloist is Claron McFadden (soprano), and conductor is Tomáš Hanus.
